Bout Sheets Signed for Ultimate Fight Night Dec 10th

frankedgar-mattwiman.jpg

As reported by www.MMAmania.com There’s a an exciting lightweight clash between Frank Edgar (9-1) and Matt Wiman brewing for UFC Fight Night 16: “Fight for the Troops” at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C., on December 10.

Edgar recently rebounded from the first professional loss of his career to Gray Maynard (unanimous decision) at UFC Fight Night 13 to outpoint former number one contender Hermes Franca on all three judges scorecards at UFC Fight Night 14: “Silva vs. Irvin” in July.

The latter bout was dubbed the “Fight of the Night,” earning Edgar and Franca each an additional $25,000 for their performances. It came as no surprise — Edgar is often involved in action-packed battles.

And the match up with “Handsome” should be no different.

Wiman has been impressive since his stint on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5, finishing three of four fights and winning them all. He demonstrated dangerous knockout power with a second round upset of Thiago Tavares at UFC 85: “Bedlam” back in June of this year.

He has four wins in five attempts inside the Octagon — his only loss was to a man who Edgar defeated at UFC 78: “Validation” in November 2007, Spencer Fisher.

10/10/08 "True Life Update: The Fight Continues For MTV’s Mixed Martial Artists"

MTV truelife_main.jpg

On tonight's True Life: I'm a Mixed Martial Artist , you met Frankie and his wife Renee, as well as Ian and Kit. Much has happened in the lives of these fighters since the taping of the show , and they gladly agreed to fill you in on the latest news…

FRANKIE EDGAR
After the wedding, things were moving fast. We went to Hawaii — beautiful place, everyone should go there once in their life. Coming back, we must have still thought we were on the honeymoon because Renee got pregnant. I'm super excited to be having a kid. We found out it's a Boy, so that's pretty cool. I'm going to teach him what I know and pass on my love for wrestling and fighting, and hopefully he'll take to it.

As far as training, a lot has changed since the show. I finally decided to join a team: Ricardo Almeda Jui-jit-su and Renzo Gracie Fight Team. I feel that my skills will get a lot better being under a great teacher and with great workout partners. I have started doing strength and conditioning at Parisi Speed School under the guidance of Martin Rooney. He is second to none when it comes to this stuff. I've also continued my boxing with Mark Henry and my skills have continued to improve. These new additions to my training helped me achieve a victory in my last fight over former No. 1 contender Hermes Franca.

09/11/08 "Back At It...MTV True Life... Be Careful out there"

Another week gone, things are picking up, I feel healthy and the body is performing to its capabilities. Its amazing with my schedule how fast you get back in the saddle. With my upcoming fight in December I will maintain this steady schedule from here forward.

For those of you that dont know I will be featured in an upcoming edition of MTV True Life "I'm a MMA Fighter". My documentary is scheduled to air in October. 5th. Should be good, they traveled with
me for 3 months, (practice, bachelor party, Madison Square Garden appearance, UFC Events), should be good.

Finally, I want to finish with a WORD of WARNING. Recently, I was out riding my Honda CBR6 with a good friend of mine. Like many of you I watch Stunting videos and at one time aspired to be able to do some of the things I saw. Wheelie come to the top of the list. But after this ride last week I am completely in a different place now in regards to that aspiration.

We were cruising back from "The Barn" where we practice, night was perfect, weather was great. My buddy Roger who rides wheelies for miles (he's a pro stunt rider) crashed hard right in front of me

09/05/08 "Back to the Grind"

frank keylock small.jpg

After my fight with Hermes I was a little laid up for a bit, I could train but limited in what I could do.After several weeks of healing I've gradually worked my way back into my normal training regimen. This week was the first week I was back full swing. I had a great week of training, all around including cardio, wrestling, boxing and BJJ. With the down time you wonder how it will effect you but thankfully for my constant training schedule I've returned on track, so im excited to be back at my quest to be World Champion. The timimg couldnt be better: pre-season has started for the Rutgers Wrestling Program. We should be competitive this season with some of the Nation's Top Recruits we obtained since last year. I look forward to getting after it with some of the new up and comers. In addition to that, I've been in the final negotiating stages for my next fight. Looks like I will be back in the octagon in December, opponent to be named once I sign the bout agreement in the next couple days. I also started training with Jim Miller (newly signed to the UFC) and Vitor “Shoalin' Riberiro two top light weights that add depth and toughness to my workouts along with Chris Liguori and Ricardo Almieda and the rest of the guys.

UFC 73: Frank Edgar vs. Mark Bocek

ufc73_frankedgar_markbocek.jpg

By: Jesse Holland of http://www.mmamania.com/

Frank Edgar (6-0) puts his perfect record on the line against ADCC veteran and also undefeated Mark Bocek (4-0) at UFC 73: Stacked.

While both fighters are relative newcomers, this classic grappler vs. wrestler match up could easily turn out to be fight of the night.

Edgar’s last three fights have gone to the scorecards including his UFC debut against Tyson Griffin at UFC 67. Whether or not that is a factor against Bocek, who hasn’t let a fight go past the first round, remains to be seen.

I know the recent display of lightweight action on The Ultimate Fighter 5 has not exactly been a showcase of pacing and intensity, but I have a feeling that Edgar and Bocek are going to make it a point to prove those battles were the exception, not the rule.
